St. Philomena's Children's home is a non-profit organization.
Established in 1895 at St. Augustine's Hospital in
Durban, South Africa, we have a cherished and proud
history of serving the community. For more than a
century, St. Philomena's has cared for boys and girls
in need.
Today
all children placed in our care have come to us through
the courts and are seen as children in need of intensive
care, under the Child Care Act of 1973. Through the
years, over 5.000 children have passed through our
doors, many becoming professionals in various fields
and responsible community members.
At present we have about 90 children from various
race groups in our care, ranging from 2 years to 18
years old.We are also unique in our catering for both
boys and girls, giving preference to siblings, keeping
families together as far as possible. This has demanded
a transformation in the type of care we offer with
a lot more emphasis on development.
